Wranglers Roll Past Rams 6-1

Sylvan Lake Wranglers 6, Rocky Rams 1 — Final

The Sylvan Lake Wranglers dominated from puck drop, scoring three times in each of the first two periods to beat the Rocky Rams 6-1 on Saturday night at Rocky Regional Recreation Centre.

Rocky actually opened the scoring just 1:18 into the game on Riley Roberts’s goal, assisted by Caleb Hilman and Colby Herstein. Sylvan Lake answered with three unanswered goals of its own to close out the first: Brendon Harnack at 10:42, Toran Schofer’s go-ahead goal at 14:36 (the eventual game-winner), and Karter Simpson’s insurance marker with seven seconds left in the period, putting the Wranglers up 3-1 after twenty minutes.

Sylvan Lake kept pouring it on in the second, getting goals from Derek Wagner (2:41), Aidan Hack (7:21), and Harnack’s second of the night (10:22) to push the lead to 6-1. Neither team scored in the third.

The shot totals reflected the lopsided territorial play: Sylvan Lake out-shot Rocky 60-25 for the game, including a 41-12 edge over the first two periods. Wranglers goaltender Marlo DeRosa stopped 24 of 25 for the win, while Rocky’s Jett Wagner turned aside 54 of 60 shots in a tough outing.
