Flanagan’s OT Winner Lifts Bisons Past Wheatland Kings 4-3

Carstar Okotoks Bisons 4, Agra Risk Wheatland Kings 3 — Final (OT1)

Nathan Flanagan scored 1:33 into overtime to give the Carstar Okotoks Bisons a 4-3 win over the Agra Risk Wheatland Kings on Saturday night at Murray & Piper Arena, a night after the same two clubs met in the exhibition schedule’s opening weekend.

Okotoks struck first, with Issac Cayetano scoring just 1:56 into the game (assisted by Carson Christie) for a 1-0 lead after one. The Bisons extended it in the second when Jakob Semeniuk made it 2-0 at 13:42 (assists: Nathan Flanagan, Garrison Peck), but Wheatland got on the board just over two minutes later through Adam Moore, assisted by Connor Eeles and Jackson Keith, to trail 2-1 after forty minutes.

Grady Binner restored Okotoks’ two-goal cushion early in the third (4:57, assisted by Brayden Mullaly and Ryder Sinnott), but Wheatland answered twice to force overtime: Adam Moore’s second of the game on the power play at 8:30 (assists: Emery Medicine Shield, Nash Wassing) and Jaden Prairie Chicken’s tying goal at 11:52 (assists: Medicine Shield, Wassing) knotted it at 3-3 after regulation.

Flanagan settled it in overtime, scoring 1:33 in off an assist from Semeniuk to complete a 4-3 Okotoks win. Wheatland out-shot Okotoks 34-29 on the night, but Okotoks’ goaltending tandem of Benjamin Slaney (13/13) and Derrick Ford (18/21, the win) combined to hold the Kings at bay. Adam Moore (2G) was named the visiting team’s star of the game, while Flanagan (1G, 1A, including the winner) earned the home star.
