Rocky Rams 6, Rimbey Royals 3 — Final
The Rocky Rams scored five times in the second period to blow open a tight game and beat the Rimbey Royals 6-3 on Saturday night at Vern Poffenroth Memorial Arena.
Rimbey opened the scoring on Tyson Oba’s goal at 14:27 of the first period, and the Royals carried a 1-0 lead into the second. That’s when Rocky took over: Tyler Hanson tied it at 4:55, Caleb Hilman put the Rams ahead just 45 seconds later, and Brawn McKay made it 3-1 at 5:48 — all inside a 53-second span. Riley Roberts added another at 6:02 to make it 4-1 before Rimbey’s Chad Christensen answered at 8:04. McKay’s second of the period at 11:59 pushed the lead back to three, and although Oba scored shorthanded with 10 seconds left in the period to cut it to 5-3, Rocky took a commanding two-goal cushion into the third.
Riley Roberts capped his three-point night with a power-play goal just 34 seconds into the third, completing his hat trick and sealing the 6-3 final. Rocky out-shot Rimbey badly throughout, 42-22 for the game, including a 20-10 edge in the second period alone. The Rams used a two-goalie tandem of Jaxson Schmaltz (13/16) and Jett Wagner (6/6), while Rimbey’s Valentino Elias Harson (23/28) and Anden Bieganowski (13/14) shared the net for the Royals. Rimbey was also whistled for 48 penalty minutes on the night, including a match penalty to Steve Makinaw and a fighting major and game misconduct to Arthur Moar in the third.
