Garagan’s two goals lead Bisons past Flyers, 7-2

Carstar Okotoks Bisons 7, High River Flyers 2

The Carstar Okotoks Bisons broke open a tight game with a four-goal second period, beating the High River Flyers 7-2 at home on Saturday.

Nathan Flanagan opened the scoring for Okotoks at 11:31 of the first, but High River answered late in the frame as Beck O’Neill tied it at 15:42, sending the teams to the first intermission level at 1-1.

Okotoks took control in the second. Seamus Garagan opened the period’s scoring at 4:52 and struck again for the eventual game-winner at 10:57. Brandon Corbeil answered for High River at 12:38, but Okotoks pulled away with an insurance goal from Noah Provan at 14:03 and another from Jakob Semeniuk at 18:02 to take a 5-2 lead into the third.

Okotoks added two shorthanded goals in the third — Carson Christie at 11:11 and Zephyr Laplante at 15:32 — to round out the 7-2 final. High River’s penalty kill struggled late, allowing both of those shorthanded tallies on the same two kills.

Okotoks goaltender Derrick Ford made 29 saves on 31 shots for the win. High River’s Erich Baxter stopped 37 of 44 in the loss. Attendance at Murray & Piper Arena was a real, recorded 100.
