Vipers blank Flyers 7-0

Red Deer Vipers 7, High River Flyers 0

The Red Deer Vipers rolled to a 7-0 shutout win over the High River Flyers at Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex on Friday, with Brady Leroux’s four-point night leading the way and goaltender Brock Lott turning aside all 18 shots he faced.

Red Deer came out of the gate fast, scoring four times in the first period. Dawson Weigum opened the scoring at 2:52 off a Justus Sveinbjornson–Cohen Carlson feed — the eventual game-winner — and Kris Karol made it 2-0 just 21 seconds later. Brady Leroux struck at 15:32, and Coen Marshall added a power-play goal with less than two minutes left in the frame, sending Red Deer into the first intermission up 4-0 while out-shooting High River 19-5.

Mason Hammerback opened the second period with a power-play goal 46 seconds in, and Leroux added his second of the night at 14:34 to push the lead to 6-0. High River made a goaltending change late in the period, with Logan Van Der Leest relieving Erich Baxter at the 15:16 mark after Baxter had stopped 34 of 40 shots.

Weigum capped the scoring with a shorthanded goal at 9:43 of the third period for the 7-0 final. The third period turned physical in the back half, with two separate fighting majors — Mason Hastings vs. Jase McArthur at 8:04, and Tyler Gladney vs. Rodie John Pickens at 17:41 — each pairing picking up matching fighting minors and 10-minute game misconducts.

Red Deer’s Brock Lott earned the shutout, stopping all 18 shots he faced. High River’s tandem of Baxter and Van Der Leest combined to stop 50 of 57. Attendance at Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex was listed at 175.
