Evan Sine’s three-goal night leads Generals past Thunder, 8-3

Cannex Cochrane Generals 8, Airdrie Techmation Thunder 3

The Cannex Cochrane Generals outlasted the Airdrie Techmation Thunder 8-3 at SLS Centre Totem 1 on Friday, with Evan Sine’s three-goal, four-point night powering the Generals to a comfortable win in front of 578 fans.

Airdrie actually led for most of the first period. Zachery Hall opened the scoring at 3:59 for the Thunder, but Cochrane answered with goals from Alexander Devnich (11:05) and Sine (11:45) to take a 2-1 lead. Airdrie’s Tyson Sandhu tied it back up at 16:43, sending the teams to the first intermission tied 2-2.

Airdrie’s Landyn Scribner opened the second period with a power-play goal at 8:18, but Cochrane answered with four straight: Lincoln Pidsadowski at 8:50, Sine’s second of the night at 12:06 (the eventual game-winner), Nathan Sherriffs at 14:32, and Sine’s third at 19:39, putting the Generals up 7-3 after 40 minutes.

Ty Barry opened the third-period scoring for Cochrane at 0:18, and Samuel Dal Cin added the Generals’ eighth goal at 6:58 to make it 8-3. The final 20 minutes were otherwise dominated by discipline, with a chaotic stretch from 7:43 to 16:27 producing a string of misconduct penalties on both sides.

Cochrane goaltender Isaias Maddigan made 30 saves on 33 shots for the win, while Airdrie’s Lucas Veal stopped 38 of 46. Sine (3G 1A) was named Cochrane’s team star, with Sandhu (1G) earning the nod for Airdrie. Attendance at SLS Centre Totem 1 was 578.
