Billings’ five-point night powers Colts past Royals, 9-2

Mountain View Colts 9, Quality Rimbey Royals 2

The Mountain View Colts put on a scoring clinic at Didsbury Memorial Complex Arena on Friday night, piling up 74 shots on goal and rolling to a 9-2 win over the Quality Rimbey Royals behind a five-point outburst from Lucas Billings.

Mountain View came out fast, scoring four times in the first period. Zachary Wheatley opened the night just under 11 minutes in, assisted by Hunter Sellers, before Nate Smith made it 2-0 at 14:36. Brock Dingman struck what would stand as the eventual game-winner at 16:01, and Sawyer Campbell capped the period with a power-play insurance goal at 17:49 to send the Colts into the first intermission up 4-0. Rimbey managed just five shots on goal in the opening frame.

The Colts kept pouring it on in the second. Reed Toussaint got Rimbey on the board with a power-play goal 7:14 into the period, but Mountain View answered immediately as Billings scored at 8:34 — the first of three goals in the frame for the Colts captain. Brayden Nicolas pulled Rimbey back within three with his second of the game at 12:51, but Billings struck twice more, at 15:49 and 16:59, pushing the score to 7-2 after 40 minutes. Rimbey also made a goaltending change at 8:34, with Valentino Elias Harson relieving Anden Bieganowski.

Both teams traded third-period goals — Ayden Backstrom for Mountain View at 4:32 and Beau Van Vlaanderen at 12:37 — to round out the 9-2 final. The third period was comparatively calm after a chippy opening 40 minutes that saw Mountain View go 1-for-1 on the power play and Rimbey finish 1-for-1 as well.

Mountain View goaltender William Steingart went the distance, stopping 18 of 20 shots for the win. Rimbey turned to two goaltenders: Bieganowski allowed five goals on 34 shots before Elias Harson took over and stopped 36 of 40 the rest of the way — a workload that earned him Rimbey’s team star of the game despite the lopsided score. Billings, with three goals and an assist, was Mountain View’s team star.

Attendance at Didsbury Memorial Complex Arena was announced at 469.
