As a founding member of the HJHL, the Red Deer Vipers are marking their 40th season alongside the league. The club started out as the Red Deer Cowboys. It has won HJHL titles in 1989, 1999, 2004, 2017 and 2018, along with provincial titles in 2004 and 2006, and in 2006 it became the first HJHL team to win the Keystone Cup.

Director of hockey operations Brady Sim said celebration plans will be announced soon, and the club is inviting former players to reconnect through reddeervipers.com.

New head coach Bob Rutz, who coached the U18 AAA Red Deer Chiefs last season, takes over a team that won the North Division last year before falling to Medicine Hat in the league final.
