Airdrie Techmation Thunder 5, Cannex Cochrane Generals 4 — Final (OT1)
Tyson Sandhu scored three times, including the overtime winner, as the Airdrie Techmation Thunder outlasted the Cannex Cochrane Generals 5-4 in overtime on Friday night at Ron Ebbesen Arena, capping a wild third period that saw six goals scored.
The teams traded goals early: Sandhu opened the scoring for Airdrie at 5:34 (assisted by Landyn Scribner and Michael Camponi), and Cochrane’s Diego Ouimette answered at 10:08 (assisted by Carter Murphy) to make it 1-1 after one. Neither team found the net in the second period, despite Airdrie holding an 18-8 shot advantage in the frame.
The third period turned into a track meet. Cochrane’s Coen Lane opened it with a power-play goal at 7:08 (assists: Alexander Devnich, Diego Ouimette), but Airdrie’s Landyn Scribner tied it right back at 10:13. Everett Johns put Cochrane up again at 11:27, and Evan Malcolm made it 4-2 Cochrane at 16:25 — but Airdrie answered twice in the final four minutes, with Sandhu’s second at 16:50 and Zachary Harder tying it 4-4 at 18:20 to force overtime.
Sandhu completed his hat trick just 1:20 into the extra period to give Airdrie the 5-4 win. Cochrane actually out-shot Airdrie 43-40 on the night, including 19-11 in the first period and 16-10 in the third, but Airdrie’s Lucas Veal made the saves that mattered, stopping 39 of 43 for the win; Cochrane’s Luca Montebovi took the overtime loss after stopping 35 of 40.
