The Heritage Junior Hockey League has received notice that the Ponoka Stampeders have withdrawn from league competition following the conclusion of the 2025–26 season.
The Ponoka Stampeders have been part of the Heritage Junior Hockey League since 1998, representing the community of Ponoka for more than two decades. During that time, the organization carried forward a proud hockey name with deep roots in Alberta’s junior hockey history and remained a committed member of the HJHL.
While success in junior hockey is often measured by wins and losses, the true impact of a Junior B program is found in player development and community involvement. The Ponoka Stampeders consistently provided young athletes from Ponoka and surrounding areas with the opportunity to compete, develop, and grow within a structured junior hockey environment close to home.
The team also played an important role in the local community, operating out of the Ponoka Culture & Recreation Complex and bringing families, fans, and volunteers together throughout the winter season. Like all Junior B organizations, the Stampeders relied heavily on the dedication of billet families, volunteers, sponsors, coaches, and staff, all of whom contributed countless hours in support of the team.
The 2025–26 season marked a challenging period for the organization, but the Stampeders fulfilled their commitments and competed through the completion of the season. Their perseverance during that time reflects the effort required to operate a junior hockey franchise and the commitment shown by those involved with the team.
On behalf of the Heritage Junior Hockey League’s Board of Governors, officials, and member clubs, we extend our sincere thanks to the Ponoka Stampeders organization for their years of participation and contribution to the league.
We wish the players, families, volunteers, and supporters associated with the Ponoka Stampeders all the best moving forward. Their place in the history of the Heritage Junior Hockey League is appreciated and respected.
— President, Heritage Junior Hockey League
