Agra Risk Wheatland Kings 5, High River Flyers 3
The Agra Risk Wheatland Kings beat the High River Flyers 5-3 at Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex on Friday behind two goals from Jordan Laycock, including an empty-net insurance goal in the final seconds.
Tripp McArthur opened the scoring for Wheatland at 9:29 of the first, but High River answered quickly with goals from Lucas Hughes and Jake Brennan — the latter in the final 15 seconds — to lead 2-1 after 20 minutes. Wheatland tied it in the second on a goal from Emery Medicine Shield, but High River’s Cohen Spencer restored the lead at 7:36 before Luke Nottveit’s power-play goal at 15:11 tied it again at 3-3 after 40 minutes. Laycock put Wheatland ahead for good with a goal at 11:39 of the third, and after a flurry of penalties in the final minute — including matching minors to High River’s Lucas Hughes and Rodie John Pickens — Laycock added a power-play empty-net goal with six seconds left to seal the 5-3 win.
Wheatland’s Evan McNair made 27 saves on 30 shots for the win. High River’s Logan Van Der Leest stopped 48 of 53 across two TOI segments around a late goaltender pull. Attendance at Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex was 130.
